For over 70 years, AR Hinkel has been at the forefront of electrolysis innovation, driven by a passion for permanent hair removal and a commitment to quality. Our story begins in the 1930s when Arthur Hinkel, while working for General Electric's medical division, met electrologist Henri St. Pierre. Inspired by St. Pierre's interest in blending galvanic and high-frequency currents, Arthur dedicated himself to designing cutting-edge electrolysis equipment.
In 1948, their collaboration led to the patented St. Pierre Epilator Company Inc., which introduced the first blended current epilator. This groundbreaking device combined the precision of galvanic current with the speed of high-frequency current, revolutionizing the electrolysis industry.
Arthur's journey continued as he established the Wilshire School of Electrology, operated a chain of electrolysis salons, and supplied equipment and electrologists to renowned department stores. The AR Hinkel Company, initially a small operation, became a hub for manufacturing innovative epilators for Arthur's businesses and graduates.
In 1984, William "Bill" A. Schuler, who had worked alongside Arthur since 1972, acquired the company. Under his leadership, AR Hinkel expanded its reach, partnering with schools as distribution points and venturing into international markets across Canada, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
